Starting at the Square in Inverbervie follow the A92 South for 200m then turn left on to Kirkburn. Follow the road towards the North Sea and Bervie Bay until you reach the Cycle path on your right. Head South towards open country and follow the track round the coast past Horse Crook Bay.
Soon you will reach Gourdon, built on the Mearns coast as a fishing village, and like Johnshaven, the fishermen of former times employed the unusual custom of line fishing rather than net fishing techniques, but nowadays the harbour is mainly used for creel fishing boats and pleasure craft.
Continue south to reach the cluster of cottages at Haughs Bay and cross a bridge over the burn. The track continues to follow the coast running past the grounds of Lathallen School on your right and East Long Skelly on the coast to your left. The track ends shortly and becomes a tarmac road. Bypass a caravan park on your right and stay with the shore road as it enters Johnshaven. Continue to the Harbour area and you will arrive at our destination, The Anchor Hotel.
A meal bas been booked at 6:00pm for 6:30pm in the name of the Blairgowrie and District Hillwalking Club in the “Bar Restaurant” and if arriving early, the bar will be open for refreshment. The coach for the return journey to Alyth and Blairgowrie will be waiting nearby.
