The Lecht - Ladder Hills Sunday 2nd April 2017

Posted By at Monday, April 03, 2017

The Ladder Hills at The Lecht was the destination for the walk on Sunday 2nd April, Everyone started at The Well of The Lecht and walked to the old manganese mine and studied the history information board before climbing east to the first hill of the day Carn Liath (792m) and then along the broad ridge to the goal for the day, the Corbett Carn Mor (804m).

The weather was wonderful, clear, sunny, with a gentle breeze and we were treated to extensive 360 degree views for many miles in each direction. The walk was punctuated by an abundance of stark white mountain hares still in their winter garb, and much birdsong later in the walk from grouse, stonechats, golden plover, meadow pippets and even a pair of ducks. From Carn Mor we retraced our steps along the ridge and after about a kilometer the party split into two, one group completing a loop around a broad ridge and back to the Well of The Lecht, the other headed southwards through the undulating terrain to join the others at the Allargue Hotel which was closed. Tea coffee and cakes were enjoyed at the nearby coffee shop at The Luib instead, before returning home after a very enjoyable day.
